Zoos SA is a not-for-profit conservation charity that exists to save species from extinction and connect people with nature. As one of the largest open range zoos in the world, spanning more than 1,500 hectares of fauna and flora, we're excited to be expanding Monarto Safari Park, the largest safari park that will exist outside of Africa and a rare and exciting project, the construction of an elephant habitat!
We're also excited to be expanding Monarto Safari Park with a first-of-its-kind luxury resort, luxury tents and lodge facilities. In May 2025 Monarto Safari Park began offering longer visits and a range of new and wild safari experiences in an area known as Wild Africa including incredible tours through herds of roaming animals.
Monarto Safari Park is looking for motivated and enthusiastic Works Officer to undertake casual afternoon shift maintenance work across Monarto Safari Park and Wild Africa (9:30 PM to 6:00 pm or during daylight savings 12 Noon to 8:30 PM).
ABOUT THE ROLE...
This casual role will work across our Monarto site undertaking construction duties, and routine and reactive maintenance of animal habitat infrastructure, to ensure they meet with requisite compliance standards. The role works across a seven day roster. The primary purpose of this role is to perform general works duties and maintenance across site to ensure efficient operation across our Monarto Safari Park and Wild Africa services, whilst also offering support to our onsite trades.
Duties of this role will vary and may include:
- Assist trades personnel with repair, construction, fabrication and demolition work.
- General maintenance of infrastructure to ensure habitats are structurally sound to contain animals in habitat and holding areas.
- Carry out minor maintenance / new work duties with minimal supervision.
- Undertake basic maintenance of vehicles, plant and equipment, including fueling and checking tire pressures.
- Maintain roads and pathways.
- Collect, transport and deliver items to and from the Zoo, including rubbish and waste materials.
- Clean items as required, including vehicles, drains, gutters, and equipment.
- Erect and maintain signage, rubbish bins, furniture, fences and similar.
- Change light globes and tubes.
- Operate forklift truck, sweepers, tractors, vehicles and trucks where licensed and required.
- Assist trade personnel to clean and maintain all relevant work areas including immediate areas around workshops.
- Identify and report maintenance defects.
ABOUT YOU…
To be successful in this role you must have previous general hand experience assisting trades, within a facility management environment, and demonstrated high level of experience in maintenance techniques and practices. You must hold a current Manual SA Driver’s licence; MR licence is desirable. We are seeking a hands-on, multiskilled problem solver. You will be required to possess a sound understanding of working to high safety standards ensuring workplace safety is not compromised, with a Working at Heights ticket would also desirable.
The successful candidate will be someone that pays close attention to detail and can manage their time effectively, working both independently or as part of a team. Experience working on rural/farm/remote properties/sites would be suited.
Metal fabrication and welding skills within a facility management environment and experience using heavy machinery like excavators, dump trucks, loaders, etc. would be an advantage.
You must be available to work afternoon shift hours from 9:30 PM to 6:00 pm and during daylight savings from 12 Noon to 8:30 PM.
