AOD Peer Support Coordinator – Day Rehabilitation


The Opportunity
The Peer Support Coordinator at First Step’s Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Program, will work as an
integral member of a multi-disciplinary team whose role will be to help deliver the US Matrix Model to
individuals experiencing complex and problematic alcohol and other drugs use.

The Setting
First Step is a specialist centre for integrated care – medical, mental health and substance use – with an
embedded community legal service. We deliver free, wraparound support for people with co-occurring
needs, including substance use, through a multidisciplinary team working side-by-side to restore dignity,
build connection and support people to live well.

The Role
Reporting to the ResetLife Program Manager, the Peer Support Coordinator will work as a key member of
the multi-disciplinary team in successfully delivering the US Matrix Model (known as ResetLife in
Australia.) The Peer Support Coordinator will alongside group facilitators in delivering psychoeducation
and delivering small groups to mature participants and graduates of the ResetLife program. Actively
adhering to the treatment materials, exploring options for routine with participants, facilitate one
fortnightly group session, engaging peer volunteers, and actively engaging participants throughout the
ResetLife program are all important elements of the Peer Support Coordinator role. More detail can be

About ResetLife
ResetLife is a free, abstinence-based, alcohol and drug treatment program, based on the US Matrix
Treatment Model and funded by the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network. Participants of the
program are required to attend 3 to 4 times per week for 16 weeks, for group psychoeducation, one-on-one
counselling and peer support and family education with their support person.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Qualifications & Experience: 

Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or 
Intentional Peer Support training or similar training.

Skills and Experience: 

Demonstrated personal recovery journey with at least one year abstinence, and ability to use
lived experience to provide empathetic, respectful peer support and build therapeutic
relationships. 

Experience participating in ResetLife or similar programs, with a commitment to recovery and
wellbeing. 

Work respectfully and effectively within a multidiscriplinary team, following organisational
policies and procedures and contributing to a positive work environment. 

Ability to take initiative and adapt to dynamic, fast-paced environment. 
Strong administrative skills including documentations, data entry, and group preparation;

proficient in MS Suite.

Desirable: 

Attended and graduated the ResetLife program. 
Certificate IV in AOD or have completed the required AOD competencies.

Key Selection Criteria
Applications should provide a cover letter that addresses the following five Key Selection Criteria, a recent
(up to date) resume and 2 professional references.

ResetLife, prepared you to support others in their recovery journey?

2. Can you describe how you use lived experience to build therapeutic relationships and provide
empathetic peer support while maintaining professional boundaries?

3. How do you contribute to a multidisciplinary team and ensure respectful collaboration within a
structured program environment?

4. What administrative and technical skills do you bring to the role, particularly in documentation,
data entry, and using tools like Microsoft Office?

5. How do you demonstrate adaptability and initiative in a fast-paced, evolving work environment?

Please note: The successful candidate must have or be willing to undertake a valid Working With Children
Check and Police Check. Evidence of three doses of COVID vaccinations (or valid medical exemption) as

What we offer
This role is offered on a part-time contract basis until 1 July 2026 (EFT 0.4)

We offer:

Salary paid at Health Professionals and Support Services Award, level 2. 
Salary packaging up to $15,900. 
A pro rata monthly RDO (E.g. 4 days per week allows 10 annual RDOs).
