About the Role:
Reporting to the Group General Counsel & Head of External Affairs, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the delivery of complex regulatory approvals across Talison Lithium’s mining operations and development projects.
This role is instrumental in navigating regulatory frameworks, managing stakeholder engagement, and ensuring compliance with environmental and social standards. The Approvals Manager will work closely with internal teams, particularly Environment and Social Performance, to support integrated project planning and promote sustainable operational outcomes.
Responsibilities include:
- develop and lead approvals strategies to support new projects, site expansions, and operational changes;
- oversee impact assessments and risk studies, ensuring alignment with Talison’s values and sustainability goals;
- prepare and manage regulatory submissions, including Mining Proposals, EIAs, and Works Approvals;
- build strong relationships with regulators to support efficient approvals processes;
- monitor legislative and policy changes, advising the business on risks and compliance actions;
- lead land access and acquisition strategies, including negotiations with landholders;
- manage biodiversity offset planning and secure appropriate offset arrangements;
- oversee tenement strategy and ensure compliance with all conditions;
- collaborate with Environment and Social Performance teams to align approvals with broader project and sustainability objectives;
- integrate approvals into project planning, scheduling, and risk management;
- support the development of environmental and social management plans tied to approval conditions;
- represent Talison in regulatory and industry forums, and maintain strong external stakeholder relationships;
- support engagement with Traditional Owners and community stakeholders on approvals matters;
- manage the approvals budget and contribute to business planning, developing team capabilities; and
- foster a safe, high-performing team culture and support team development.
About the Candidate:
- holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field;
- minimum 10 years of relevant experience regulatory approvals within the mining sector;
- brings deep expertise in environmental and mining legislation, with a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks;
- has a proven track record in navigating complex approvals and building effective relationships with regulatory bodies;
- demonstrates strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide teams and foster professional growth;
- communicates with confidence and clarity, engaging effectively with regulators, communities, and stakeholders; and
- thinks strategically, aligning approvals with broader business objectives and long-term planning.
