Assistant Horse Trainer – Scone Racecourse, Hunter Valley NSW

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Assistant Horse Trainer to join Scott Singleton Racing Pty’s thoroughbred racing operation based at the prestigious Scone Racecourse in the heart of the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Assistant Horse Trainer to manage the preparation, conditioning, and racing schedules of our racehorses. You will be responsible for developing training programs, managing stable staff, ensuring the health and performance of each horse, and coordinating training sessions and track work.
Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise horse feeding program to ensure optimum fitness and performance
· Advising head trainer on factors affecting horses and their education, including their general wellbeing after races or work
· Ensuring staff train horses in line with training plans
· Accustoming thoroughbred horses to the equipment used for racing, including bridles, saddlery and other gear used in training and racing
· Training yearlings, two-year old’s and older colts and fillies to be handled for general handling and veterinary treatments, including handling them in the stable, yard and for swimming
· Riding track work to assist in the education of youngstock
· Re-educating horses to resolve problems such as biting, kicking and barrier issues
· Training young thoroughbreds to be accustomed to race day events and procedures
Essential Criteria:
· Applicants must have a minimum of at least 3-year full time professional experience in the role
· Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing
· Proven ability to ride, train and educate young horses
· Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction and provide information
· Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
· Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
· Hold mandatory Racing NSW licences
