About Us:
The Monash Health Board Quality and Safety Committee (Committee) is a committee of the Monash Health Board of Directors (Board) established in accordance with section 65S of the Health Services Act 1988 (Vic) (Act).
The Board has established the Committee to provide strategic leadership in relation to the clinical governance of quality and safety at Monash Health.
Monash Health Board Quality and Safety Committee has a specific responsibility to ensure that Monash health’s clinical governance framework supports strong and effective clinical leadership, a just culture, strong consumer partnerships and effective systems and processes to ensure safe and high-quality service delivery. The Quality and Safety Committee has a focus on continuous improvement.


Brief description:

Are you passionate about improving health care from the consumers perspective?

Monash Health is seeking a Consumer Advisor to join our Monash Health Board Quality and Safety Committee – this Committee provides strategic leadership in relation to the clinical governance of quality and safety at Monash Health.

As a full member of the Committee, you’ll elevate the consumer voice – bringing the voice of patients, families, carers, and visitors directly into strategic decision-making and at the forefront of what we do.


In this role, you can

  • Champion consumer perspectives – elevate the patient voice and ensure real-world patient experiences shape health care quality and safety
  • Collaborate with health care leaders – work alongside clinicians, executives, and board members and influence strategic decision making
  • Drive meaningful change – help create a health system that listens, learns, and improves with a culture and systems that support safe, person centred care

About the Role
We are looking for a Consumer Advisor who can provide a unique consumer perspective to the Committee’s deliberations. The position ensures that the interests and experiences of patients, clients, carers and visitors remain at the forefront of all that Monash Health does. The position operates as a full member of the Quality and Safety Committee.

The Consumer Advisor on the Board Quality and Safety Committee has opportunity to make a meaningful impact:

  • Represent the voice of consumers in strategic decision-making to support safe, person-centred care.
  • Promote meaningful consumer and community engagement in planning, monitoring, and improving services.
  • Ensure feedback from patients informs service design, co‑design activities, and quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and the Board Quality and Safety Committee to influence care outcomes.
  • Uphold integrity, accountability, and respectful challenge in governance and committee responsibilities.

About You:
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:
  • Tertiary qualification
  • Experience as a consumer of healthcare (patient or carer)
  • Experience as a Consumer Advisor on several committees
  • An understanding of clinical governance and an interest in high quality health services
  • an assertive and strategic thinker, with exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to analyse documents including quality metrics and data to identify patient experience and safety issues
  • knowledge of Monash Health operations, the health structure in Victoria, including the National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards
  • understanding of patient centred care principles
  • Preference will be given to candidates that are not currently working as health professionals

Mandatory requirements of the role - qualifications, licences, memberships,
  • A member of the Monash Health Consumer Advisor Program or willing to join the program, including undertaking all on-boarding requirements including training
  • Experience as a consumer of healthcare (patient or carer)
