responsibilities of the position (0.5 FTE Teaching)

Key Relationships
The Career Pathways Advisor reports directly to the Senior Career
Pathways Advisor and works closely with Heads of House and
Head of Senior Students.


Position Objective:
The Career Pathways Advisor assists in the development and delivery the School’s Careers Education
program, including Work Experience, and general careers counselling to students. The incumbent liaises with
House Heads and Curriculum Leaders so that students are well prepared to succeed in post-secondary studies
and careers, and student wellbeing is enhanced.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Work based learning

  • Manage, coordinate and continuously improve appropriate Work Experience programs or initiatives
within the School, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Prepare students to be successful in work experience placements, including 1-1 interviews
  • Oversee liaison with host employers and ensure appropriate WHS requirements are met prior to the
student’s placement


2. Post-School Pathways

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of information resources available to guide students in choosing a
career path
  • Promote and support the use of careers information and career preparation services by a broad
range of students
  • Provide counselling for Senior School students to support their identification of future pathways
  • Assist students with work-related applications, resume construction and interview preparation
  • Assist the Director of Learning and Heads of House to identify and manage exit plans for students
where appropriate.
  • Facilitate careers information sessions for parents and students

3. Tertiary admissions

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of a broad range of post-secondary education options at the state,
national and international level, including providers, courses, pre-requisites for entry, application
processes and scholarship provision

  • In conjunction with the Senior Career Pathways Advisor, interview Year 12, Year 11 and Year 10 students in
relation to their post school pathways (2 per year)
  • Assist students with tertiary admissions and scholarship applications

4. VET Pathways Coordination

  • Maintain appropriate documentation, records, processes, registrations and quality assurance systems in
relation to VET programs and ensure participation rules are met and maintained, including VISA agreements
for all embedded VET courses
  • Broker School Based Apprenticeships and associated online learning
  • Adapt and change courses in line with training packages (eg 2026 VETRO programs)
  • Review and update the Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Monitor and oversee student participation, attendance and progress in VET courses
  • Oversight of WHS requirements for VET courses and students
  • Complete Statistical Return for all VET results
  • Manage and result embedded VET modules where applicable
  • Coordinate entry of VET student results in SACE Online system with Head of Senior Students to ensure
students are meeting SACE requirements
  • Liaise with House Heads and Head of Senior Students with regard to student participation and progress in
VET courses


5. General Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, relevant information to students, families and teachers as required for Work Experience,
VET courses and the tertiary application process, to assist with pathway planning and subject selection and
in reference to counselling services
  • Attend relevant professional learning opportunities related to student destinations in careers and study
  • Maintain liaison with Universities, TAFE, RTOs, AISSA careers and VET personnel as required
  • In conjunction with the Principal and Development Office, undertake tracking of past students post Year
10, 11 and 12 career and/or university choices
  • Manage and continuously improve data collection and record management systems required in relation to
the responsibilities above

Other Responsibilities

  • All teaching staff are expected to contribute to the Pastoral Care program
  • All teaching staff are expected to contribute to the co-curricular program of the School
  • Other responsibilities as the Principal may from time to time require

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Current Teacher Registration
  • Relevant tertiary qualification including Career Counselling qualification (minimum of Cert IV in Career
Development)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a careers or work education teacher
  • Broad knowledge of post-School pathways for students
  • Previous experience of at least one of: designing and conducting careers education programs, designing
and conducting work experience programs and coordinating Tertiary Admission processes within a school
  • Previous experience of designing and conducting careers education programs, designing and conducting

Conditions of Employment

  • All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia
Teachers must have (or be eligible to obtain) current registration with Teachers Registration Board of

South Australia
All staff must satisfy child protection screening and adhere to Westminster’s Child safety and Wellbeing

policy
All teaching staff must have completed current Provide First Aid training

  • A 6 month probationary period applies to all teaching positions and positions of responsibility
