Job Description

Are you passionate about making communities safer for women and their children? As part of our Domestic Family Violence Specialist Support, we need you to join our team of dedicated professionals, helping to maximise their impact on the lives of vulnerable people. In this varied and challenging role, you’ll help give people the tools they need to navigate this tough time and thrive in the future.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities. From our programs to our support services - this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

In this permanent, part-time position (9 days per fortnight) you’ll work within a case management framework in a refuge setting, providing support to children and families who are experiencing domestic and family violence.

Based in the Moreton Bay region, you’ll work 68.4 hours per fortnight, with hours between 8:30am and 4:30pm, and a fortnightly rostered day off to be negotiated with your line manager.

You will make a difference by:

  • Ensuring the voices of children and young people are heard
  • Providing holistic case management, delivering support to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients and supporting relationships for favourable client outcomes
  • Identifying strengths, establishing goals for the program and reviewing client progress towards these goals
  • Promoting skills which increase health, safety and development
  • Enhancing stakeholder relationships and partnerships with the view of providing clients with support that will help them to address their needs
  • Working collaboratively within a small team to deliver best practice to women and children who are experiencing DFV

Does this sound like you?

You’re an experienced practitioner who is passionate about supporting families within a child centred, strengths-based framework. Importantly, you have a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on children and their families and you’re keenly aware of the additional impacts and barriers experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

It is a genuine requirement of this position that it be filled by a woman as permitted in sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1991.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in case management and knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Knowledge and previous experience working in the Domestic and Family Violence or closely related human services context
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families
  • Strong report writing, analytical and evaluation skills, including data collection and analysis
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or significant experience working in a similar service

A place to belong:

At 54 reasons, we invest in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 600 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

It takes all types of people to do the challenging work we do. We are diverse personalities, backgrounds and talents, embracing our differences as one strong and united team. We see and celebrate the unique value you bring to our organisation, and offer a range of rewards for your effort, including:

  • Annual PD funding and ongoing development opportunities
  • Generous award rate salary (Level 4.1 – currently $44.58 per hour) plus super and full salary packaging benefits -
  • Extra leave to use in a range of ways to ensure you’re able to perform at your optimum
  • Supportive Managers – we provide professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions so you can feel supported and build a career
  • Support for workplace wellness, including access to our free, confidential Employee Wellbeing Program
  • Internal deployment and secondment opportunities, and opportunities to progress within one of Australia’s largest non-profits
