Job Description
We’re looking for a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team at SGS.
In this role, you’ll carry out daily machining tasks on CNC and manually controlled machines, ensuring precision, quality, and safety in every job. You’ll also work closely with operations and management while supporting the development of apprentices and shop personnel.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Perform machining tasks accurately, following engineering drawings and instructions.
- Train, mentor, and support apprentices and shop personnel.
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate daily records, including job cards, repair and inspection documentation, and quality reports.
- Undertake training and upskilling to meet client requirements.
- Assist in growing the business through client and project diversification.
- Report machine or equipment faults promptly to the Operations Team/OEM.
- Take care of gauges, measuring equipment, and company tools.
- Work shifts as required to meet operational needs.
- Identify and escalate any conflicts between procedures and safety requirements.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
- Trade qualified with at least 5 years’ experience operating and programming CNC and manual machining equipment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with precision.
- Knowledge of different steel grades and machining characteristics.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing techniques (5S, waste elimination, continuous improvement).
- A flexible, customer-focused mindset, with the ability to adapt and deliver quality results.
