The Role
We're seeking an experienced ADABAS Database Administrator to manage and support ADABAS database systems across both IBM z/OS mainframe and UNIX platforms. This Sydney-based role is part of a long-term uplift initiative for a national regulatory platform. You'll play a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of ADABAS environments, while supporting application development teams and contributing to modernisation and integration efforts.
This role is ideal for a database specialist with deep experience in both legacy and UNIX-based systems, and a strong understanding of batch and online processing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain ADABAS database environments on mainframe (z/OS) and UNIX systems (AIX, Solaris, or Linux).
- Monitor and optimise database performance, storage utilisation, and system health.
- Perform regular backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning/testing.
- Apply patches, upgrades, and implement change control processes for database systems.
- Analyse database issues and provide root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Support batch and online processing environments that rely on ADABAS.
- Collaborate with software developers and business analysts to implement changes and enhancements.
- Support Natural applications integrated with ADABAS.
- Document processes, configurations, and recovery procedures.
What You'll Need
- Experience with ADABAS database administration.
- Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
- Experience with UNIX/Linux systems and tools.
- Proficiency in Natural programming language is a plus.
- Knowledge of ADABAS utilities (ADAULD, ADACMP, ADASAV, etc.).
- Familiarity with job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M, CA-7).
- Strong knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language) and batch job management.
- Solid understanding of data security, data integrity, and database backup/recovery.
- Australian Citizenship with Baseline security clearance.
