The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is seeking skilled and passionate dispute resolution professionals to join its Dispute Resolution Division. We currently have multiple ongoing and fixed-term positions available, based in Melbourne's CBD with flexible hybrid work arrangements.

As a Dispute Resolution Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in helping resolve domestic building disputes under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995. Reporting to a Lead Officer within the Client Services group, you'll work collaboratively with homeowners, building practitioners, and other stakeholders to guide disputes toward fair and timely outcomes.

This is a dynamic, people-focused role that requires empathy, legal insight, and strong facilitation skills.

What we are looking for

To thrive in this role, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience interpreting and applying legislation
  • A track record of delivering expert advice in a dispute resolution environment
  • Hands-on experience with dispute resolution techniques, including dispute assessment, case management, and facilitative settlement
  • Experience with facilitating and undertaking conciliation meetings
  • An ability to provide quality case management and advice, assisting parties to improve communication, clarify issues and explore potential solutions.
  • National Mediator Accreditation (highly regarded but not essential)

About the BPC

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing. It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.
