About the Role
Sydney Water is seeking a strategic and hands-on Environmental Operations Team Leader to lead a passionate team of environmental specialists and liaison officers.
This pivotal role supports the Environmental Operations Manager and plays a key part in enhancing our environmental systems, tracking workflows, and transparently reporting team achievements.
You will ensure our operational and maintenance activities align with Sydney Water’s Environmental Management System, meet regulatory obligations, and uphold our environmental protection licences.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Environmental Operations Team Leader, you will:
- Lead and inspire a high-performing team, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Manage workflows and rosters, monitor team performance, and provide technical guidance to drive business excellence.
- Deliver timely, accurate environmental planning and management expertise in response to internal and external requests.
- Apply best-practice environmental management to improve outcomes for our business, customers, and the environment.
- Oversee environmental assessments and plans, ensuring compliance with legislation and internal delegations.
- Secure necessary environmental approvals, licences, and permits, and support audits and site inspections.
- Contribute to policy and procedure reviews, offering insights to strengthen environmental planning processes.
- Stay ahead of environmental legislation, ensuring Sydney Water remains compliant and proactive.
- Champion Sydney Water’s values, creating a positive and inclusive team culture.
About You:
You are a natural leader with a strong environmental background and a passion for making a difference. You bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, or a related discipline.
- Proven leadership experience in coaching and mentoring teams.
- At least 7 years of experience in environmental impact assessment (EIA), aligned with Sydney Water’s delegation requirements.
- Strong expertise in environmental planning, EIA, audits, and approvals.
- Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative environmental assessment methods.
- Deep understanding of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation, especially within the water industry.
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Lead Auditor qualifications (highly desirable).
