Caring for our city, creating a future for all

Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They’re motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision.

Be part of a purpose-led organisation with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

About the role

The City's Sustainability & Resilience team is seeking an experienced environmental professional to coordinate environmental risk management and compliance activities relating to the City's services, assets and public land to ensure we meet legislative requirements and contribute to the City being a leading environmental performer.

The successful candidate will lead the implementation of corporate processes to ensure our compliance systems and procedures are maintained and fit-for-purpose. They will also lead projects to develop and continuously improve our environmental management system.

This role works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge to deliver strong environmental management of the City’s operations. This includes providing technical and strategic advice and review of documents for our construction sites, our day-to-day service delivery activities and the management of our contaminated land obligations.

The role sits within a centralised strategy team that provides specialist environmental sustainability and climate resilience support across the organisation.

To be successful in this role you will possess degree level qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a similar discipline, coupled with experience in managing environmental issues and risks for physical assets or construction sites, including pollution risk management, contaminated land management and climate risk assessments. You will also possess strong stakeholder engagement and communication capability.

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.

The recommended applicant must complete a pre-employment health declaration.

Applications must be submitted online by 11:59pm, Monday 8 September 2025.

For more information, contact Karinne Taylor, Manager Environmental Projects on 02 9265 9713.
