An opportunity now exists for additional external committee members to join the William Angliss Institute (WAI) Educational Governance Committee (EGC), who will bring deep experience and expertise in and knowledge of current issues related to VET and Higher Education. A strong understanding and experience within academic governance and education quality will be essential for this role.
WAI has been delivering vocational training since 1940 and is Australia’s largest specialist centre for foods, tourism, hospitality and events education and training. With a network of national and international offices, WAI offers high quality learning experiences through a broad range of short courses, certificates, diplomas and degrees that span across foundation, secondary, vocational and higher education. Our teachers are passionate and dedicated with long standing industry ties. They contribute their knowledge and experience in delivering training of the very highest standard.
TAFE Institutes are regulated by a range of enabling State legislation and as a public entity the Institute must comply with a range of whole-of-government laws and policies. As part of a national vocational and education system, TAFEs are also regulated by commonwealth legislation relating to international students and training quality assurance.
The purpose of EGC is to oversee and advise the WAI Board on the quality and outcomes of education programs and to assist the WAI Board ensure that WAI meets and continuously improves its performance against all education related regulatory standards. The Board delegates to the EGC the powers, duties and functions set out in the EGC Terms of Reference, as approved by the Board. Through their participation, external Committee members (who are not Board Directors) add to the skills and capability of the EGC to effectively discharge its responsibilities.
WAI is open to considering individuals that do not bring previous Board Director experience, but understand the importance of collaboration and effective governance, and will bring a strategic mindset to the EGC. Previous experience in educational governance and as a Board director or committee member with an educational organisation would be desirable.
