Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the `Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.



About the role

Support victim-survivors of family violence and contribute to a safer, more responsive justice system.
Court Services Victoria is seeking a compassionate and skilled Family Violence Applicant Practitioner (FVAP) to join the Family Violence Team at the Magistrates' Court of Victoria. This role is central to the court's response to family violence, providing trauma-informed support to applicants and helping ensure their safety and access to justice.

As a FV Applicant Practitioner, you will:

  • ; Provide non-legal support to individuals attending court who have experienced family violence.
  • ; Conduct risk assessments aligned with the MARAM framework and develop tailored safety plans.
  • ; Refer clients to appropriate community services for ongoing support, counselling, and case management.
  • ; Liaise with legal services, police prosecutors, and court staff to support applicants through the court process.
  • ; Consider the needs of children and make referrals to child protection services where appropriate.
  • ; Maintain accurate and confidential client records and contribute to reporting and data collection.
  • ; Represent the court in working groups, network meetings, and community education initiatives.
  • ; Provide support across satellite and headquarter courts, including remote assistance when required.

About you

  • ; Genuine commitment to supporting individuals impacted by family violence, with a trauma-informed and empathetic approach.
  • ; Proven ability to engage effectively with clients, conduct comprehensive risk assessments, and respond to immediate safety needs.
  • ; Demonstrated experience in delivering support services, developing safety plans, and facilitating referrals within the family violence sector.
  • ; Solid understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, risk assessment frameworks (including MARAM), and relevant court procedures.
  • ; Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences, or a related discipline (highly desirable).
  • ; Experience working with diverse communities and applying an intersectional lens to service delivery (desirable).
