Empower recovery through therapeutic counselling
Are you a skilled counsellor or therapeutic practitioner passionate about helping families recover from the impacts of family violence?
The Pathways to Resilience Southern program provides specialised counselling and therapeutic support to children, young people, and families impacted by family violence. Delivered in partnership with Uniting and the Australian Childhood Foundation, the program includes individual counselling, group work, and family-focused interventions to promote healing and resilience.
Services are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and delivered both in person at our Narre Warren centre and online. You'll join a collaborative team that creates safe, respectful spaces where children, parents, and carers are empowered to heal and reconnect.
Your role, your impact
As a Family Violence Therapeutic Counsellor, you will:
- Deliver high-quality counselling and therapeutic support to individuals, children, young people, and their parents/carers recovering from family violence, abuse, and trauma
- Conduct trauma assessments and develop individualised treatment plans in partnership with clients
- Use the MARAM framework to assess and monitor risk and safety
- Facilitate inclusive, empowering counselling sessions that prioritise client voice and self-determination
- Support relational healing between children/young people and caregivers through developmentally informed and attachment-based approaches
- Provide culturally sensitive support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTIQ+, and CALD clients
- Contribute to broader sector development through training, consultation, and knowledge-sharing
- Work collaboratively with other professionals to provide a coordinated, family-centred response

Who we’re looking for
You’re a compassionate and experienced counsellor or therapist who brings:
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related discipline, and eligibility for professional registration
- Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed counselling to individuals affected by family violence or complex trauma
- Minimum 2 years of counselling experience.
- Strong knowledge of trauma, neurobiology, and the impact on development and behaviour
- Ability to centre the lived experience of children and young people in therapeutic work
- An intersectional practice lens and experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally as needed
