This role sits within our NSW bus business, Transdev John Holland Buses which operates as an integrated joint partnership between two highly successful global entities (Transdev and John Holland) who have together to operate the Region 9 Bus Business.
Transdev John Holland Buses (NSW) provides commuters in Sydney’s CBD and Eastern suburbs with a greener, more reliable journey. The region includes some of the city’s busiest bus routes with a patronage of 67 million customer journeys in a typical year.
This unique opportunity
As the Fleet and Assets Manager you will be responsible for the performance, compliance, safety and security of our fleet. You will play a crucial role in ensuring our operations remain fit for purpose, and our highly skilled technicians and trades team stay well equipped and motivated to carry out the required work.
Reporting to the Head of Assets you will have the mandate to lead a team of talented professionals and bring your unique skills and perspectives to support our business goals. This role involves significant focus on asset maintenance and performance; lifecycle asset management and ensuring the successful delivery of projects within commercial timeframes and budgets.
Your responsibilities:
- Ensuring appropriate asset management systems and processes are implemented to deliver the required reliability, availability, condition and life of the assets and minimises maintenance costs
- Provide advice and leadership in relation to fleet and asset management practices, and compliance with relevant legislation, regulation and standards
- Ensure asset management compliance with Sydney Metropolitan Bus System Contracts (SMBSC)
- Implement the annual Asset Management Plan and Annual Works Plan
- Manage the fleet and asset management budget as specified in the business plan
- Ensure the interface between the fleet asset management team and operational team is functioning effectively through sound communication and planning
- Ensure that all asset maintenance, refurbishments and repairs meet NHVR requirements, safety standards and operational requirements
- Champion fleet performance and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with regulatory and health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) requirements
- Support all recruitment, training and competency management requirements to ensure safe and efficient asset management, including the maintenance of all contractual and legislative requirements
- Support the investigation of incidents to meet corporate reporting and other safety and environmental requirements
- Oversee and manage contractual obligations to ensure adherence to business KPIs
About you:
You are an established industry leader (8+ years experience) who is looking to take their next step in their career and build on their skill set. Ideally, we are looking for an incumbent who:
- Possess a trade or an engineering qualification with an MR License
- Can demonstrate strong asset management with a strategic project leadership capability.
- Is well versed in heavy vehicle technical expertise; and possess the ability to build effective partnerships with influential stakeholders.

- Provide leadership, management skills and personal qualities underpinned by business acumen that inspires staff to think, act and behave in a safe manner that supports the delivery of an excellent customer experience;
- Have the demonstrated ability to implement systems which drive and enhance the culture of the Asset and Maintenance team;
- Manage the performance of the team members within the Asset and Maintenance function and provide counsel and feedback to ensure organisational and personal development objectives are achieved;
- Maintain required asset accreditations in accordance with passenger land transport and general regulatory requirements, develop relationships with the regulator and facilitate audits.
- Drive asset performance and strive for continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with regulatory and health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) requirements
- Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of programs that drive and enhance safety culture.
