Position Overview:
We are seeking a permanent part time (PM) dependable and compassionate Food Services Assistant to support the preparation, plating, and delivery of meals to residents in our aged care home. This role ensures that all food is served safely, hygienically, and in a way that meets residents’ individual dietary needs and preferences.
The Food Services Assistant plays an essential role in promoting the health and wellbeing of residents through nutritious, well-presented meals in a clean and welcoming dining environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and plating of meals and snacks for residents according to the set menu and dietary guidelines
- Ensure food is served at appropriate temperatures and in accordance with resident meal orders and texture modifications (e.g. IDDSI guidelines)
- Deliver meals to dining areas or resident rooms, ensuring a respectful and positive interaction
- Support kitchen hygiene and cleanliness including dishwashing, surface cleaning, and equipment sanitisation
- Follow all food safety and infection control policies and procedures
- Assist with stock rotation, labelling, and storage of food items
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, care staff, and residents
- Report any concerns regarding residents’ nutrition, hydration, or food safety
- Complete kitchen cleaning tasks and checklists as required
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food services environment (aged care preferred)
- Completion of Food Safety Training for Aged Care (HLTFSE001) – Mandatory
- Knowledge of safe food handling and infection control practices
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a caring and respectful attitude towards elderly residents
- National Police Check (within 12 months)
