The opportunity
Reporting to QBE’s Chief Risk Officer for our Australian Pacific division (AUSPAC), the GM, Strategic and Enterprise Risk, AUSPAC will join the AUSPAC Risk Leadership Team, providing industry leading insights across strategic, insurance and financial risk classes, providing independent insight and challenge into key risks faced by the business.
Your new role
In this senior role you will act as a trusted advisor to the AUSPAC CRO, responsible for leading the technical risk team within AUSPAC Risk and providing thought leadership to inform and execute thematic deep dive risk reviews while also leading the strategic business plan review to support the formal CRO attestation process.
In addition, you will drive broad enterprise risk leadership activities, acting as principal divisional representative and primary interface with Group Enterprise Risk Management teams to support divisional operationalisation/ execution of enterprise risk processes including RMSA, RMD, Line 2 thematic reviews etc.
Key accountabilities include:
  • Leading the Line 2 framework for challenging business plans and performance, supporting CRO reporting and annual attestation.
  • Driving innovation in risk management processes to meet both regulatory and business needs.
  • Overseeing stress and scenario planning, including development of contemporary scenarios aligned with Top Risks.
  • Collaborating with Group ERM and AUSPAC RLT to develop and implement Divisional Risk Appetite Statements.
  • Further enhancing and embedding risk dashboarding and insight tools across the Risk Team.
  • Translating internal and external data into actionable insights for EMB and business leaders.
  • Leading the Top and Emerging Risks process, ensuring alignment with Group profiles and integration into strategic planning.
  • Partnering with the Group Risk Culture CoE to define and communicate AUSPAC’s target risk culture and support divisional initiatives.
  • Acing as divisional lead for executing cyclical ERM processes.
About you
This is an opportunity for a senior risk professional from insurance or broader regulated financial services. Insurance industry knowledge will be highly regarded but more critical is your demonstrable experience in ERM processes and risk leadership within complex large-scale organisations.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Extensive experience in risk management and financial analysis within insurance or financial services.
  • Proven leadership in complex financial services environments, including Board and Executive-level engagement.
  • Deep understanding of statutory and regulatory frameworks, stress testing practices, and market dynamics.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to deliver practical, effective solutions across diverse business areas.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • A holistic view of business operations and a collaborative approach to working within leadership teams.
