The Opportunity

The Head of Procurement is responsible for the sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of goods and services required for the design and construction of data centre facilities. The role ensures the timely and cost-effective acquisition of LLE equipment, main build contractor and service contracts, while maintaining compliance with organizational and regulatory procurement policies. This role involves developing and agreeing on the procurement strategy with key stakeholders and being responsible for implementing the required processes and practices.

What you'll be doing

    • Develop procurement strategy, manage supply chain risk, and reduce lead/deployment times for both core and shell build and future fit-out phases.
    • Develop and establish best practice procurement processes, governance framework, and standard contracting templates for data centre construction procurement aligned with design and operational objectives.
    • Develop and run the RFP process and supplier contract templates with input from the relevant SMEs.
    • Develop and apply weighted evaluation matrix to evaluate and select suppliers.
    • Source suppliers for data centre construction including main contractor, civil works, building and mechanical electrical plant & equipment (MEP).
    • Liaise with MDC stakeholders and consultants to understand and fulfil technical & commercial requirements (e.g. design & engineering, construction, PMs, executive, commercial, finance).
    • Manage procurement tender processes for the purchase of plant, equipment, and services.
    • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms to align with MDC procurement principles.
    • Ongoing active contract management to mitigate supply chain delays.
    • Evaluate new & existing supplier performance and manage relationships.
    • Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal policies, contract law, WHS, and ISO standards (where applicable).
    • Provide procurement guidance and support to internal team.
    • Work closely with the design and engineering team to develop build and fit-out designs that focus on cost-effectiveness and rapid deployment.
    • Identify and develop guidelines to drive design principles with a cost lens.
    • Identify procurement risks and develop a risk management framework.
    • Propose mitigation strategies to ensure project delivery times are met and there is continuity of critical supply.
    • Work together with Program Manager to develop and maintain a live program.
    • Assist with audits and any relevant reporting requirements.
    • Prepare monthly cost analysis and forecasting reports for management.

Your ideal skills and experience

    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in senior procurement or supply chain roles.
    • Demonstrated procurement experience in Data Centre environments particularly new builds.
    • Experience in commercial negotiations of procurement contracts.
    • Experience working in secure and regulated environments.
    • Experience in procuring LLE for Data Centre developments and existing relationships with LLE vendors is desirable
    • Experience as an engineer and/or quantity surveyor in a data centre environment is beneficial
