Create your best future and join Westpac as a Information Security Consultant.

What’s the role?

We are looking for an Information Security Consultant (SIEM Projects) to join the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) team. This person will be a technical consultant for Westpac's critical security monitoring services. Developing and continuously improving logic to detect threats and expanding SIEM coverage over critical feeds.

The key accountabilities of the position include delivering SIEM project engagements, focusing on log ingestion into platforms such as Splunk ES and developing security use cases. Responsibilities involve managing stakeholders, advising on log selection and compliance with standards, and collaborating with project and SBD teams. The role also includes contributing to CI/CD pipeline implementations and enhancements.

What do I need?

  • At least 3 years of experience in information security, security operations, SIEM engineering (e.g. Splunk), or cybersecurity incident response—or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms and data analytics tools, including onboarding processes and use case development.
  • Proficiency in Splunk, ideally including Enterprise Security. Certifications such as Power User, Advanced Power User, or Developer are valued but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as regular expressions, SQL, Python, and custom parsing.
  • Basic understanding of UEBA, SOAR, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in IT infrastructure, application support, or IT service management.
  • Knowledge of incident analysis, triage, and response techniques in cybersecurity.
  • Awareness of layered security controls (Defence in Depth) and how they contribute to a secure environment.
  • Understanding of international security and risk frameworks such as SABSA, ISO 27000 series, ISO 31000, and SOX.
  • Formal education or certification in information security, IT, risk management, service management, or audit—or equivalent practical experience.
  • Industry certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, SABSA, ITIL) are appreciated but not required.
