RGA Australia is looking for two enthusiastic and talented Actuarial students to join the Valuation actuarial department in Sydney as interns in 2025. As part of this opportunity, you will gain exposure to our actuarial functions as well as to the majority of the Australian and New Zealand life insurance industry through our clients. You will build on your technical actuarial skills, as you progress towards completing your Actuarial degree, and be exposed to senior management. Our actuaries are life insurance experts and uniquely positioned to provide non-traditional solutions to our clients.
What you will do
- Support the team in quarterly reporting and financial movement analysis under different reporting basis
- Help to ensure all data, assumptions and processes are appropriate, adequately documented and meet all applicable standards
- Assist in developing tools to optimize operational efficiency
- Perform reconciliation of prophet calculations for financial reporting
- Involvement in other ad-hoc actuarial related or process enhancement projects
- Gain knowledge in MS Excel, AXIS and Prophet (actuarial software)
- Gain knowledge of the reinsurance industry
- Gain exposure to a variety of areas which may include profit reporting & analysis, risk & capital management, development of sophisticated financial models, structuring internal retrocession, and setting actuarial and economic assumptions
Qualifications
- Students pursuing bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent (penultimate or final year of studies).
- Working experience in life insurance/reinsurance companies; previous financial reporting or reinsurance administration experience preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and database software such as Excel required.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Required.
- Intellectual curiosity and the desire to learn. Required
- Completion of at least one exam with an accredited actuarial professional body preferred.
- Able to commit to working 15 – 20 hours per week, which can be split across 2 – 3 days to accommodate your course timetable. Required.
