About the area

The School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary school offering education and research in a number of engineering disciplines, including biomedical, civil, environmental, mining, chemical, mechanical, electrical, and electronic and automation robotics. The School of Engineering has an established and dedicated team of teaching and research academics providing undergraduate and post-graduate programs across multiple engineering disciplines. In research, the School also spans a wide range of engineering disciplines, with groups often comprising transdisciplinary researchers who work with industry to produce outcomes with impact.

The division of Student Wellbeing and Engagement facilitates a high-quality student experience through the provision of integrated and comprehensive services. The division is responsible for the delivery of the UWA Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework and the UWA Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Communities Framework. Student Wellbeing and Engagement has six broad areas - tertiary prevention through the Complex Case Management team; early intervention, cohort initiatives and timely access to low barrier services through the Student Wellbeing team; counselling through the Psychology team; Grand Challenges and the provision of a contemporary onboarding experience through the Student Engagement team; provide care and specialist support for international students through the International Student Support team and primary prevention programs and clinical response to gender-based violence through the Safe and Respectful Communities team.

About the opportunity

  • You will act as the first point of contact for international engineering students and provide individualised support, referring students to the appropriate area in Student Life, the University and/or external bodies.
  • You will plan and coordinate activities, services and programs for new and current international students within the School of Engineering
  • You will work closely with support services across the University to ensure a connected and holistic approach to student support.

About you

  • Relevant degree or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Substantial relevant experience at an appropriate level, including a demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies and procedures for management of international students.
  • Substantial experience in coordinating events, programs and initiatives for international students of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds.
  • Well-developed understanding of relevant issues impacting on the successful transition to university of commencing international students and their continuing success.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to consult and support students with various needs.

Special Requirements

  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current Police Clearance.
