As a Lead Engineer, this role will see you join a high impact Engineering team and provide engineering and technical leadership in the development and delivery of transmission substations projects. You will work with internal and external stakeholders, and Design and Construction Delivery Partners to ensure projects are developed and delivered in a cost-efficient way and to high standards of quality.
This role spans across business development activities such as scoping and estimating for new projects and tenders, responding to technical challenges arising from ongoing planning and design activities, through to support during the construction of our infrastructure portfolio. Reporting to the Engineering Team Lead, the Lead Engineer is expected to offer technical expertise in responses to the infrastructure market. You will support the business development and project delivery activities and client management with techno-commercial inputs in the space of electrical substation design and construction.
The Lead Engineer will be instrumental in the ongoing change in energy sector growth and provide guidance to the greater team in technical quality, technical compliance, performance, and value-for-money of all assets in the Contracted Asset Portfolio.
The Lead Engineer will also lead, coach and mentor engineering team members, sharing their considerable experience in dealing with project and technical issues to achieve the best outcomes for AusNet Services and its stakeholders.
This role is primarily based in Southbank and is part of the Engineering, Infrastructure Operations & Delivery – Development & Future Networks (DFN).
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Deliver expert engineering and technical support into projects across AusNet’s DFN Infrastructure portfolio, applying technical knowledge across brownfield and greenfield initiatives to drive efficient design and construction outcomes Apply primary and secondary technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects
- Independently manage the development of tender and detailed designs, scopes, specifications and other project activities whilst managing workflows and the quality of work produced by others.
- Identify opportunities to introduce innovation and new technologies.
- Lead, coach and mentor personnel within the team, sharing knowledge and experience to achieve team and divisional objectives.
- Assess technical risks and ensure they are managed through design or commercial means.
- Lead in the development and maintenance of engineering standards, to ensure network compliance with legal, technical, regulatory and safety obligations.
- Represent AusNet Services on technical matters with our clients and partners.
- Evaluate options and make recommendations for complex technical problems requiring inventiveness to depart from or adapt accepted practices and procedures for which it is necessary to modify established guidelines and devise new approaches.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- 10+ years’ experience in experience in utilities or the industry with proficiency in design, construction and asset management of Terminal Station & Substation rated up to 500kV
- Degree in Engineering or tertiary qualification
- Prior experience across engineering design and construction with the business acumen and ability to meet engineering design excellence
- Demonstrated success in delivering projects to time and budget whilst maintaining outstanding customer service and positive customer relationships
- Demonstrable knowledge of primary and/or secondary electrical equipment as used in Terminal Stations and Substations in respect to their design, performance, functionality, operation and maintenance, rated at up to 500kV, including layout, site selection and technical reporting
- Proven capability in developing conceptual plans into feasible designs and producing high quality design deliverables such as drawings and scope of works including management of budgets and schedules
- Proven ability to build and grow relationships and partnerships across divisions within AusNet as well as with external suppliers, customers and regulatory bodies
- Be a Registered Professional Engineer in Victoria (RPEV)
