About the role
Are you an experienced hydraulic specialist with a passion for leadership and precision? Babcock are looking for a skilled Lead Technician (Hydraulics) to join our dynamic Marine team, delivering specialised technical services in support of submarine maintenance and workshop operations, including the refurbishment and servicing of hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Based at our brand new and purpose-built facility in Woodville North, this role offers the opportunity to work on high-integrity defence assets while leading and guiding technicians to meet team, company, programme and customer objectives.

About you
You are a qualified mechanical tradesperson with hands-on experience in hydraulic and mechanical systems, particularly in high-integrity environments. You take pride in your ability to diagnose, repair and refurbish complex equipment and are skilled in troubleshooting and diagnosing faults in complex systems. You bring strong leadership skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to mentor others while delivering technical excellence. You’re confident interpreting detailed drawings, managing workshop operations, and using systems like IFS to meet daily objectives. With a proactive mindset and a focus on continuous improvement, you're ready to take ownership and contribute to mission-critical defence work.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Mechanical trade certification or equivalent experience
  • Training and / or certification in hydraulics
  • Previous experience leading teams
  • Valid Australian Class C driver’s licence
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Commonwealth Defence Security Clearance as defined by AGSVA guidelines
