Primary objective
The Legal Services Clerk, under the guidance of the Director of Legal Services and as part of a specialised team, provides high-level
legal administrative support to the Legal, Freedom of Information and Privacy Services unit across all areas.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide administrative support to the Director of Legal Services and legal staff including preparing coronial briefs, monitoring
and recording due dates for Part IIA Criminal Code matters including court reports, responses, minute taking and other matters.
2. Assist with research and responses to requests for advice on a range of policy, legal or quasi-legal matters.
3. Prepare routine legal correspondence, ministerial and departmental briefings.
4. Maintain records and legal management databases.
5. Assist Legal Support Officers in managing motor vehicle accident claims for Northern Territory (NT) Health.
6. Manage the transfer of medical, client and staff records between the Department, the Department’s legal representatives and
the Courts as appropriate, including undertaking courier duties as required.
7. Organise and co-ordinate official travel for Unit staff and other parties as appropriate.
8. Manage and process accounts for payment in a timely and efficient manner.
9. Assist the Legal Support Officers in responding to subpoenas, summonses, police search warrants and other medical
information requests.
10. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritise and manage a workload effectively within
deadlines.
2. High-level administrative skills and demonstrated attention to detail in a high volume and complex work environment with an
ability to form strong partnerships with stakeholders and work as a member of a small team with limited supervision.
3. High-level skills in the use and management of databases, particularly records management and legal systems.
4. Demonstrated experience in handling information of a highly confidential nature and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
5. Experience working in a legal office or other advanced exposure to legal terminology, concepts, principles and practices.
6. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which emulates NT Health values of being professional, accountable, honest, respectful
and innovative.
Desirable
1. Experience in health or community service activities and administration.
