The Step Thru Care – Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) model is a partnership-led service delivery model intended to address independent and co-occurring Mental Health and AOD support needs across western Victoria.

The service provides a holistic approach to care, addressing a range of social, physical, and emotional needs informed by Collaborative Relational Practice (CRP) and supported by best practice in evidence-based and evidence informed care.

The Mental Health & AOD Clinician will work as part of a multi-disciplinary recovery-focused team. Drawing on your disciplinary skills, you will engage with consumers, to provide high quality evidence based psychological therapies, and clinical interventions, and where identified, work with the consumers treatment team, their family, friends, and carers aimed at improving mental health and Alcohol and other Drug outcomes for consumers.

Provide brief and detailed assessment and collaborative treatment plans to consumers.
Provide individual evidence based psychological therapies as required & clinical interventions to individuals and their families/supports.
Engage consumers, using a strengths-based approach to complete a mental health status measurement and an assessment to determine level of care.
Utilise brief interventions, de-escalation strategies and motivational interviewing and other strategies to motivate consumers in treatment.
Facilitate group interventions focused on a range of treatment modalities including psychoeducation, trauma-informed care, relapse prevention, and other therapeutic interventions when required.
Work within a holistic framework considering the needs of the consumers, family, carers, and other members of the community to ensure tangible outcomes.
Support referral to appropriate specialist services and assist consumers to exit from the service on achievement of treatment goals. The objective of Exit Planning is to minimise the risk of relapse of the consumers following leaving.
Work closely with the Step Thru Care multi-disciplinary team to deliver the best possible comprehensive service to consumers.
Maintain strong working partnerships with the public and private Mental Health and AOD Services to ensure a collaborative approach to intake, escalation and exit and the effective operation of Step Thru Care Service.

What we're looking for:
5+ years’ experience in AOD & Mental Health.
Proven clinical experience to apply evidence-based psychological therapies/interventions including understanding of theoretical concepts within mental health and AOD sciences and their application to mental health and AOD issues and problems.
Experience working as a member of a multi- disciplinary team with the ability to inspire and facilitate team commitment and cooperation.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, negotiate and facilitate client outcomes and resolve conflict with a diverse group of people with complex needs using compassion.
Demonstrated ability to form and nurture partnerships with government and non-government mental health, AOD, emergency and community service providers.
Knowledge of local services particularly relevant to designated program area.
Formal tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, or Occupational Therapist.
Completed a Certificate IV in AOD or 4 AOD core competencies.
