As a Network Controller in Training within our Transmission Operations Team, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the stability and security of Victoria's electrical transmission power grid. You’ll oversee safe and efficient access to the AusNet Transmission network, actively monitor power system operations, and respond to network events with precision and expertise.
Location: Melbourne CBD (on-site, shift work required).
What we’re looking for:
- Knowledge of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), electricity transmission networks, and associated assets is highly desirable.
- A relevant electrical qualification and experience are highly advantageous.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
- Initially working under the supervision of the Senior Network Controller
- Proactively monitor and identify network and asset risks, anomalies, and opportunities to promote better safety, reliability, and security outcomes.
- Assists in managing unplanned incidents and larger scale emergency events in a calm, purposeful and methodical manner according to procedures, training, experience, and knowledge.
- Manage events through the analysis of protection targets, alarms, SCADA data, network configuration, contingency plans, load flow analysis, and understanding of remedial action schemes.
- Support Transmission Control & Operations team during periods of heightened network activity.
- Be proactive in supporting Transmission Control & Operations day to day activities, process planned work, refresh knowledge, plan for contingencies, maintain operational procedures, maintain data in technology systems and share knowledge.
- Review access applications and assess, write, review, switch planned switching operations to ensure positive outcomes in terms of network safety and security.
- Provide safe and secure access to the network for planned works (e.g., for maintenance or installation of assets) including understanding customer impact and notification, maximising incentive schemes, ensuring reliability and system security maintained.
- Analyse project plans and remedial actions schemes are suitable for operability and maintainability.
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- An understanding of network operations, risk management, regulatory frameworks and health and safety practices
- Knowledge and understanding of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), electricity transmission network and assets elements
- Knowledge of network protection elements, systems, and remedial action schemes.
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Critical thinking and the ability to efficiently analyse information in a methodical manner
