Primary objective
Develop and maintain the Alice Springs Desert Park nursery and seed store facility to produce a wide range of Australian arid zone
plants for use in Desert Park landscapes and other works as required.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the operations of the Alice Springs Desert Park nursery unit and the associated seed store.
2. Assist in the development of the nursery’s community activities.
3. Conduct trials on hard to propagate and Millenium Seedbank species.
4. Oversee record keeping in the Botanical Section.
5. Facilitate the organisation of, and participate, in the field collection program.
6. Adhere to and oversee all Work Health and Safety requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in nursery and staff or volunteer management.
2. Demonstrated understanding of, and experience in, propagating and growing Australian native plants.
3. A relevant horticultural qualification or relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related to the duties of the
vacancy.
4. Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
5. Knowledge and experience in Botanical record keeping.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
7. A current NT driver’s license (or the ability to obtain).
Desirable
1. Knowledge of seed storage practices.
2. Experience with field collecting programs.
3. Chemcert/SMARTtrain and Senior First Aid certificates.
