What we are looking for:
Fraser Coast Regional Council is looking for an experienced professional to drive the reliability and performance of our Water & Waste Services technology.
In this role, you’ll oversee SCADA, communications, hardware and software across key sites, provide expert advice on OT strategy, and lead improvement initiatives.
You’ll also deliver high-level technical support, training, and guidance to staff and contractors while ensuring compliance with best practice standards.
What your day will look like:
- Strategic Development – Provide specialist advice and lead the development and implementation of the Operational Technology (OT) strategy, ensuring continuous improvement while maintaining reliable services.
- Systems Management – Oversee the operation, maintenance, and improvement of SCADA, communications, and other OT systems across Water & Waste Services infrastructure.
- User Support & Training – Deliver high-level technical assistance, manage service requests, provide end-user training, and implement best practice client-focused support.
- Network & Infrastructure Oversight – Manage OT network infrastructure including WAN, LAN, switches, servers, UPS, security systems, and remote access environments.
- Compliance & Standards – Ensure staff, systems, and processes align with endorsed policies, standards, and industry best practice, including secure access management.
- On-Call & Supplier Liaison – Participate in after-hours support, manage on-call rosters, and liaise with external suppliers and consultants to maintain service reliability.

What you’ll need for success:
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology at Diploma/Advanced Diploma level or higher, or equivalent or substantial progress towards attainment.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in the co-ordination of operational technology systems within a multi-faceted organisation ideally gained within the water/wastewater industry.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge of Microsoft application products, Windows Operating Systems and SCADA software.
- Demonstrated project management and trouble shooting skills.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge of Windows networking, LAN/WAN/Wireless networking in an enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated computer literacy utilising the Microsoft suite of products.
- Current Driver's Licence
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
- Current Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus immunisations (or ability to readily acquire within 3 months).
What’s nice to have:
- Certification in HPE Aruba Managed Networks
- Experience with WAN and microwave radio technologies
- Certification in Microsoft operating systems (ie: Microsoft Server/Active Directory) and Microsoft application software
