Join the team at Council’s Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC) team and play a vital role in delivering essential waste services for our community.
As a Plant Operator, you’ll operate and maintain a range of heavy plant and equipment, including loaders, water trucks, hooklift trucks, and landfill compactors. You’ll be responsible for safe waste disposal, site maintenance, and environmental management - including traffic control, earthworks, fencing, and pollution control measures.

- Two (2) permanent, full-time positions, based on 38 hours per week.
- Remuneration package of $2,582.98 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $3,099.58 gross per fortnight + superannuation (12%).
- Six (6) week rotating roster, working one (1) weekend out of every six (6) weeks.
- Penalty rates applicable for hours worked on weekends.
- Access to five (5) weeks annual leave per annum.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Plant Operator at GWMC, you will be responsible to:
- Operate and maintain Council plant and equipment with an emphasis on loader, water truck, hooklift truck and landfill compactor operation.
- Undertake waste management duties including managing the disposal of municipal, construction and demolition and commercial and industrial waste, and contaminated waste; fencing and litter control; traffic management; earthworks and waste cell construction and maintenance; and implementing and monitoring soil, leachate management, stormwater, sediment and pollution control measures; site rehabilitation works; and site safety.
- Utilise and maintain small items of plant, equipment, tools (hand and power) and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE/C) in accordance with Council standards.
- Participate in regular team meetings.
- Complete documentation relevant to the role e.g. standard forms, payroll system, site safety documentation including incident reports etc.
- Perform other duties in support of the GWMC team as directed, relevant to skills, competence and training.
Essential Requirements of the Position:
As the successful applicant, you will bring a strong mix of qualifications, skills and professional experience, including:
- Current Class HR Driver’s Licence.
- General Construction Induction Training Card.
- National Certificates of Competency - Forklift (LF) (Desirable).
- Substantial experience relevant to the role in line with the Position Description.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
In accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation, the successful applicant is required to be vaccinated for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Tetanus and will be asked to provide evidence of this.
