Primary objective
Provide classroom-based support to the teaching staff and contribute to the implementation of the preschool program and Early
Years activities within the school, including supporting the documentation and evaluation of children’s learning and liaising daily
with families and community. Assist with the general administration of preschool resources and facilities.
Context statement
Yuendumu School is located in the community of Yuendumu, 300 km northwest of Alice Springs. The school operates across two
adjacent sites which include a and Child and Family Centre (CFC) providing education and care services for young children and
their families from birth to school age; as well as primary schooling from Preschool to Year 6, and Secondary schooling for Years 7
to 12. The Preschool offers 15hrs of Early Childhood Education to preschool children aged between 3.5yrs to 5yrs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Under the direction of teaching staff, prepare the classroom resources as required.
2. Under the direction of teaching staff, assist with the supervision and instruction of students in classrooms and in extracurricular
activities including sports, excursions, and special days.
3. Organise, evaluate and document children’s wellbeing/learning in collaboration with a team of educators, and liaise with
families regarding progress.
4. Administer first aid and provide asthma and anaphylaxis treatment and/or attend to sick children as necessary.
5. Relate and be sensitive to the needs of preschool aged children to assist with their social, emotional, cognitive and physical
development.
6. Under the direction of the Teacher in Charge, manage the administrative tasks including maintaining a safe and clean learning
environment for students.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Have, or be in the process of obtaining, a current Working with Children Card and a Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
qualification, or ability to obtain.
2. Demonstrated ability to perform every day administrative tasks, prepare learning activities and interact with others who speak
Aboriginal languages or English as an additional language, showing good communication skills.
3. Demonstrated experience in working with young children in a supportive school/day-care environment, including working as
part of a team to implement the principles and practices of the of the National Quality Framework, the Early Years Learning
Framework and the Northern Territory Preschool Curriculum.
4. The ability to work and positively interact with others as part of a team, making sure that students are safe, engaged and
learning.
5. Ability to work with initiative and to observe confidentiality.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and experience working with the Northern Territory Preschool Curriculum.
2. A Cert III or IV approved Early Childhood qualification that meets the requirements of the National Quality Standards.
3. NT Drivers Licence.
