Primary objective
The principal plays a vital role in delivering the vision of the Department of Education and Training (DET) and contributes to the
development of a 21st century education system. The principal is the leading educational professional in the school who inspires
students, staff and community members to optimise the learning of all students.
Context statement
Manyallaluk School is located approximately 100km east of Katherine. The population of the surrounding community is around
150; residents come from the language groups of Mayali, Rembarrnga, Dalabon and Jawoyn. Manyallaluk School has an enrolment
of approximately 25 providing education for students from preschool to Year 6. The development of literacy skills is a major focus
for the school.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide effective leadership in the implementation of DET and Northern Territory Government policies and programs.
2. Articulate and implement an educational vision for the school and work with the school community to translate this into goals,
priorities and plans that result in improvements in student wellbeing and student outcomes.
3. Be accountable for student learning through appropriate monitoring, reporting and evaluation of outcomes.
4. In a manner consistent with DoE values, manage administrative and operational systems to support the school vision and
undertake an appropriate teaching load.
5. Work collaboratively in and across DET structures to ensure a seamless educational service and pathways for
all students.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated leadership in the development of teaching and learning in a school environment.
2. Proven ability to build the capacity of self and others.
3. Demonstrated strategic leadership in partnership with the school community to drive innovation and change to achieve school
improvement.
4. Ability to lead the management of the school’s physical, financial and human resources.
5. Demonstrated ability to build a shared culture of high expectations, while developing and maintaining effective interpersonal
and cross cultural relationships within and beyond the school community.
6. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and a Working with Children Ochre Card or the
ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in educational leadership.
2. Completion of Public Sector Management Program of equivalent.

Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and a Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre
Card), or the ability to obtain, is required in this position. The successful applicant will be required to adhere to and model the NTPS
