About the role
We have a fixed term opportunity until July 2027 for a Principal Engineer joining our engineering advisory team based in Leederville. Undertake and coordinate complex investigations, planning and analysis for assessment, design and development for our water treatment infrastructure throughout WA.
You’ll also provide a centre of expertise technical support and advice to planners, designers, constructors and operators as well as helping to set our standards. The role will be based in our Leederville office and will report to our Senior Principal Engineer – Water Treatment.

What the role will involve
- Undertake and coordinate complex investigations, conceptual planning and financial analysis for assessment, design, development and remedial works of allocated infrastructure assets
- Develop and maintain engineering design criteria, design standards and manuals for a specific infrastructure design function within the agreed budgetary and time constraints
- Provide a centre of expertise and high-level specialist technical advice on water treatment related engineering criteria and design standards
- Develop and maintain modelling capability and protocols in process and/or hydraulic modelling of water treatment plants
- Prepare job briefs for the engagement of consultants and evaluate consultant proposals. Examine tenders and make recommendations.
- Undertake the role of Design Manager for nominated projects and review outputs and performance for conformity to agreed requirements, standards, time and cost
- Represent the Corporation in consultations and negotiations with Government agencies, local authorities, Water Services Association of Australia, standards organisations, consultants, developers and stakeholders
About you
You’ll have a qualification in a relevant engineering discipline and a strong background in water infrastructure planning and design. You’ll bring substantial experience in process selection for water treatment plants, along with advanced expertise in the design, commissioning, operations, or project management of water treatment assets.
A proven track record in the planning and design of seawater desalination plants and new source investigations, you’ll be confident in preparing and reviewing technical reports, consultant briefs, and tender specifications for water industry infrastructure, and possess a sound understanding of water-related infrastructure assets and systems. Your ability to analyse existing or proposed infrastructure for engineering and economic effectiveness, and to present viable, strategic recommendations, will be key to success in this role.
While the above criteria require considerable process engineering experience related to water treatment, individuals with extensive mechanical engineering or process control & SCADA engineering, or similar experience related to water treatment are encouraged to apply.
