The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

Purpose of the role
The Finance Innovation and Analytics unit is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of best practice financial business intelligence (BI) to support and enhance decision making on strategic and tactical financial management matters. The team is responsible for supporting contemporary and innovative business practices, and leveraging technology solutions to streamline and enhance finance and business processes. The team works closely with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with departmental strategy and industry best practice to support high quality and fiscally sustainable outcomes for QFD.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will lead the delivery of contemporary analytics and business intelligence solutions that support QFD financial management and high-quality decision making. You will provide high quality advice to senior leaders on finance analytics and business intelligence issues and build strong relationships with stakeholders to enable the development of high-quality data models and interactive reporting solutions with a strong focus on end-user experience. You will lead and implement finance business practice and process improvements, and ensure robust technical environments that support the business intelligence capability to ensure high availability of financial business intelligence products and services.
Key requirements
Highly desirable requirements
* Experience in analysing complex datasets and translating these requirements into data models and structures.
* Highly developed skills with business intelligence technologies including data warehousing (Azure, SQL Server), Structured Query Languages (SQL), BI visualisations (PowerBI) and/or qualifications in data science or related disciplines.
* Experience in financial management and possession of tertiary and post graduate qualifications in data analytics, or related disciplines.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
* Provide strategic advice on the design and implementation of best practice approaches, frameworks and guidelines for performance management and BI products to influence effective decision-making.
* Lead the analysis and resolution of complex business problems to provide innovative solutions and architecture to meet business data and information needs.
* Engage, consult and collaborate with key stakeholders to determine and document business requirements and plans, and develop effective data model and interactive reporting solutions to enhance financial management products, governance, reporting and data analysis.
* Provide expert technical leadership and mentorship to team members, as well as guidance to key stakeholders to uplift the finance business intelligence capability and ensure modern and best practice approaches that improve financial management services to QFD.
* Lead and manage the development and maintenance of the technical environment and ensure high availability to minimise business disruption to end-users.
* Lead business improvement initiatives, leveraging technology solutions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial management processes to achieve best practice.
* Research, analyse and interpret current and emerging industry trends relating to the support and enhancement of the technical business intelligence environment and solutions.
* Build team capability and assist in the ongoing development of staff, through performance management, and planning and review processes, whilst encouraging positive teamwork and empowering individuals to strive for continuous improvement, seek challenges and achieve results.
