Position Information

Northern Beaches Secondary College (NBSC) Balgowlah Boys Campus (enrolment 1140 students) is a comprehensive Year 7-12 boys' high school and is part of a collaboration with Cromer, Freshwater Senior, Mackellar Girls and Manly campuses. The campus has a commitment to innovative teaching to engage boys in their learning. Students are challenged to achieve their personal best in all aspects of their education in a caring learning environment. The campus has an active Parents and Citizens Association which supports the school in its provision of resources and extracurricular activities. The campus’ reputation as a consistently high performing school is underpinned by explicit teaching strategies to build a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy.

The college includes more than 4,800 students and 450 staff led by the College Management Team (CMT). The CMT comprises the college and campus principals and is responsible for the administration of staffing and financial resource to achieve key educational and wellbeing outcomes. NBSC operates 20 collaborative staff networks based around key learning and operational areas in addition to a student and parent consultative group. The networks lead a number of collaborative strategic initiatives across the college focused on coordination and communication, wellbeing, professional dialogue and curriculum support.

1. A proven visible and approachable leader to ensure the continual improvement of a high performing campus working with the school community to lead strategically and with purpose.

2. Proven pedagogical, evidence informed and contextualised leadership that empowers staff to lead explicit quality teaching and wellbeing initiatives to maximise student learning outcomes.

3. Demonstrated expertise in strategic leadership to build and enhance strong partnerships between and beyond the campus ensuring equity and an environment where all students and staff can thrive.


General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people


Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Classification Structure for Principals:
The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2025.
