About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced geoscience professional to join our team as Principal – Mineral Resource Reporting. In this pivotal role, you will lead BHP’s annual declaration of Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves, acting as the Competent Person Compiler for public reporting obligations.

You will play a key role in global assurance activities across our assets, including risk reviews, deep dives, and technical governance. As a Critical Control Owner for material risk management and SOX Champion for the Resource Centre of Excellence and Legacy Assets, you will ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory frameworks.

This role also supports capability development across our minerals reporting community, fostering excellence among Competent Persons and Qualified Persons. You will contribute to the pipeline for SEC declaration requirements and support the Manager – Minerals Reporting in delivering annual reporting obligations for both ASX and SEC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the compilation and verification of BHP’s annual Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves declaration for ASX reporting.
  • Act as Compiler and Competent Person for BHP’s Annual Report.
  • Coordinate SOX assurance activities for the Resource Centre of Excellence and Legacy Assets, including scope definition and sign-off.
  • Own critical controls related to Competent Person reports and global minerals reporting standards.
  • Build technical capability across BHP’s geoscience community, including mentoring Competent Persons, Qualified Persons, and Ore Reserves Coordinators.
  • Administer BHP’s internal reporting database, managing reportable parameters, workflows, and accountable personnel.
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships with Planning, Technical, and Environmental teams to align with resources and reserves requirements.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in external reporting frameworks (e.g., JORC Code, ASX Listing Rules, SEC S-K 1300).
  • Lead assurance activities across multiple assets under BHP’s Three-Lines-of-Defence model, including tenement management and mineral resource reporting.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive experience across the geoscience value chain, from resource delineation to closure.
  • A tertiary qualification in Geoscience.
  • Deep understanding of the JORC Code (2012) and ASX Listing Rules.
  • Familiarity with SEC S-K1300 requirements for mineral resource and reserve reporting.
  • Proven experience in governance, assurance, and public reporting of resources and reserves.
  • Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • A track record of mentoring and coaching geoscientists.
  • Expertise in open cut and underground mine geology and its application to business decisions.
  • Experience leading small technical teams and delivering complex projects.
  • Excellent communication skills across various levels and disciplines.


Highly Desirable:

  • Previous experience acting as a Competent Person.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience in technical risk management frameworks.
Location

The role can be based in Australia corporate offices in Perth, Adelaide, or Brisbane. You will be working on Monday to Friday roster with 3-2-1 arrangement.
