With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).
The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. Its landscape ranges from beautiful coastal areas adjoining the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests to the rugged outback with breathtaking rock formations. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people.

The Role
In the role of Principal Officer (Planning), you will be involved in strategic, detailed and investment planning and provide advice on network management with respect to the region's state-controlled road network.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and participate in integrated transport planning projects and corridor studies within the district.
- Lead, manage and coordinate area planning, corridor strategies, feasibility, and concept phases (project proposal, options analysis and business case development) of projects, in close liaison with consultants, advisors and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on project progress against predetermined time, cost, and quality specifications.
- Lead and manage the project team and consultants to ensure all members are appropriately skilled and utilised, and to ensure deliverable, time and budgetary requirements are met.
- Prepare and deliver submissions and reports relating to planning and technical issues and identify appropriate mitigation strategies to overcome problems or obstacles related to the projects.
- Review state and local government planning documents to assess their implications for Transport and Main Roads.
- Liaise with the Safety & Operations unit, Asset Management, Maintenance and Communications teams, to inform the development of road transport projects/programs, that respond to identified network safety and efficiency deficiencies evident through road/network condition data, crash investigations, speed reviews, ITS/Electrical works, heavy vehicle demands on the network and stakeholder feedback.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
- A four-year, Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalence which is assessed/accepted by Engineers Australia against Washington Accord benchmarks or A minimum three-year, Sydney Accord accredited engineering degree such as a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) or recognised equivalence.
- A current Class 'C' Drivers Licence
- Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role
