About the opportunity

The Program Producer, Island of Ideas plays a pivotal role in the Community Engagement team, delivering high-impact public engagement activities that promote the University’s values and mission. This role produces the Island of Ideas public talks series and supports major community engagement events across Tasmania.

The role requires strong stakeholder engagement, event design and programming, communications, marketing and production skills, and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively. Collaborating with internal and external experts and partners, the role develops content that ignites conversations and curiosity within our community that are guided by the University’s mission and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The position involves travel across campuses and attendance at out-of-hours events, contributing to the University's place-based mission and broader community engagement.

What you’ll do:

  • Work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders to research, curate, promote, and produce the Island of Ideas public talks series, including development of content, securing of speakers, and writing of event communications.
  • Project manage public engagement events utilising a safety-first approach to coordinate event logistics, technical production, and communications in partnership with relevant teams in a manner that enhances the reputation of the University amongst partner organisations and the wider community.
  • Develop and coordinate key relationships in line with the role with existing internal and external stakeholders whilst establishing new relationships and maintain relationships with strategic long-term partners within the community including representative bodies, businesses, the community sector and relevant government departments.
  • Provide project and event management support for in-person, online and hybrid engagement events, liaise with internal and external event suppliers, and produce technical run sheets and event briefing notes.
  • Liaise with the Communications Office to provide stories and arrange media releases for public engagement events.

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree with relevant professional experience; or an equivalent combination of extensive professional experience and education/ professional development in communications and engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful relationships with key stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects and deliver outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across a geographically dispersed team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to confidently liaise with people of various skills, experience and background to achieve win-win outcomes.
  • Ability to act independently using initiative, judgement and discretion.
  • Digital literacy, including the ability to use contemporary computer-based systems including design software, communication platforms, administrative systems, records management, and database applications.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in regular intrastate travel.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
