Primary objective
Provide high level advice and information to industry, the public and Government on rehabilitation and workers
compensation matters and undertake quality assurance, audit functions and project work associated with the activity of
insurers, rehabilitation providers and mediators operating in the Northern Territory workers compensation scheme.
Context statement
NT WorkSafe is a division of the Department of Attorney-General and Justice responsible for assisting business and workers
understand their obligations under workers rehabilitation and compensation, work health and safety (WHS), dangerous
goods and electrical safety legislation in the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake quality assurance and audit functions associated with insurance, compensation, rehabilitation and mediation
activity in the Northern Territory Workers Compensation scheme.
2. Prepare reports to assist with the monitoring of the performance of the Workers Compensation Scheme in the Northern
Territory.
3. Implement procedures and guidelines associated with the approval systems for insurers, rehabilitation providers and
mediators to facilitate best practice compensation and rehabilitation in the Northern Territory.
4. Ensure consistency in application of system procedures and protocols for data entry and undertake integrity checks to
ensure accuracy of data is in line with National Data Set protocols. Assist with the development and delivery of proactive
strategies to monitor and improve workers compensation and rehabilitation outcomes aligned to the NT WorkSafe
Strategic and Business Plans.
5. As part of a team of specialist advisers, provide workers compensation and rehabilitation advice as required.
6. Deliver education sessions to industry, the community and staff on workers compensation and rehabilitation issues.
7. Assist with management of complex complaints and inquiries regarding workers compensation and rehabilitation.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills to be able to deal with all members of the public, displaying a
high degree of integrity and tact.
2. Ability to understand and explain legislation and guidance materials.
3. Experience in undertaking quality assurance and audit functions of the type associated with the regulating a Workers
Compensation Scheme, or similar.
4. Sound knowledge of research techniques, data collection, analyses and presentation of related information.
5. Highly developed interpersonal, oral, written and negotiation skills with proven ability to communicate effectively and
work cooperatively with persons at all levels within and outside Government to develop and maintain relevant networks
and contacts.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team to ensure the timely achievement of common goals.
7. Proven ability to interact positively and effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. A tertiary qualification in a field relevant to workers compensation and rehabilitation or demonstrated practical
experience with workers compensation and rehabilitation practices and procedures.
