About the opportunity

The School of Health Sciences is the largest health sciences school in Australia consisting of seven disciplines. The school provides professional preparation programs for a comprehensive range of health science professionals, as well as general degrees in health science. The school enjoys a strong and dynamic research culture resulting from its commitment to achieving and sustaining research excellence in areas of established and emerging research strengths. The school has approximately 200 academic staff, 100 professional staff and 4,500 students.

The University is seeking to employee a Research Associate to join Facing Dementia Together, an NHMRC-funded project. Using a community-based participatory approach, the project aims to reduce stigma and increase help-seeking and timely diagnosis of dementia in CALD communities in South Western Sydney — specifically within Chinese, Vietnamese, and Arab communities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Coordination of the campaign, to ensure that the campaign is meeting targets, timelines and within budget

  • Stakeholder engagement

  • Contributing to website and resource development

  • Giving talks to the public and aged care workers

  • Supervising team of bilingual campaign officers/research assistants

  • Managing social media

  • Working with the evaluation manager to ensure accurate data collection

  • Contributing to data analysis and manuscript preparation.

About you

  • Degree in nursing, psychology, public health, allied health or other health-related discipline with Honours or equivalent research experience

  • Experience in public health campaigning, either with older people or in multicultural communities

  • Project management experience including supervising staff, managing budget and timelines

  • Demonstrated ability to write academic papers and health information for the public

  • Experience building ongoing relationships with external stakeholders

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Desirable: Skills in social media marketing, including editing videos and images.
