Primary objective
Embed high quality and effective research governance processes, practices and frameworks across NT Health to ensure research
is conducted in a safe, responsible, ethical and scientifically sound environment.
Context statement
The NT Health Clinical Innovation and Research Unit located at the Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospital campus is the central point
of contact for internal and external stakeholders who wish to undertake research at an NT Health site. The Clinical Innovation and
Research Unit hosts the NT Health Clinical Trial Coordination Unit and NT Health Research Governance Office and provides
governance capacity building support for staff.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide support and advice on research governance and regulatory requirements to internal and external clinical research
investigators, their teams and external stakeholders in accordance with national and local NT Health policies.
2. Promote awareness of the importance of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and the Australian
Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research across NT Health.
3. Oversee the implementation of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care National Clinical Trials
Governance Framework and participate in quality improvement activities to implement national regulatory and policy
developments and ensure changes are incorporated into NT Health research practices in a timely manner.
4. Undertake and ensure that site specific assessment (SSA) activities are undertaken and recorded in a timely manner and
prepare reports and briefings.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A Bachelor degree in a professional discipline and registration/membership with appropriate authority within Australia
2. Experience in clinical research governance and/or clinical research within the healthcare setting and understanding of relevant
National and NT frameworks, standards codes and guidelines.
3. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, ability to prioritise competing tasks, operate within deadlines,
provide clear oral and written advice.
4. Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills,
with significant experience working in a team environment to achieve positive outcomes.
5. Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service improvement activities.
6. Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and develop guidelines and protocols in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Desirable
1. Post-graduate qualifications in public health, management/business and or leadership
