We are currently seeking a Systems Safety Lead to join our team in Melbourne.
About the Role:
The Systems Safety Lead will provide expert leadership in engineering safety and systems assurance, including reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM). You will ensure designs and project deliverables meet safety standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and support safe, reliable operations.
Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
- Leading safety and systems assurance activities, including fire and life safety, human factors, and RAM
- Reviewing design packages and technical documentation for compliance with safety requirements
- Delivering system and subsystem safety cases and assurance artefacts
- Leading risk identification and assessment workshops
- Supporting subsystem integration and compliance with internal safety management systems
- Engaging with regulatory bodies and providing technical expertise during audits and inspections
- Contributing to technical reviews with a focus on safety, reliability, and operator-led outcomes
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of emerging safety methods, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Mentoring and guiding team members to strengthen organisational safety capability
Profile
About You:
You are an experienced safety assurance professional with strong technical expertise and the ability to embed safety across complex engineering projects. You thrive in cross-functional environments, delivering safe, compliant, and reliable solutions.
Key experience and attributes include:
- Degree in engineering with comprehensive knowledge of risk management
- 5+ years’ experience in rail safety engineering, or 10+ years in related industries
- Proven experience developing safety assurance artefacts, cases, and reports
- Strong knowledge of safety engineering principles, standards, and practices (e.g., EN 50126)
- Experience integrating subsystems to achieve safe and reliable system performance
- Skilled in advanced safety techniques: Goal Structuring Notation, Event/Fault Tree Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, quantitative/qualitative risk assessment
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with regulators and certification bodies
- Familiarity with rail operations, maintenance, and safety assurance integration
