The Student Transport and Allowances Branch is responsible for managing the provision of transport assistance programs enabling Victorian students to attend and engage with school across metropolitan and regional and rural Victoria.The Student Transport Analyst will work with the department and government schools to undertake research and analysis of school owned buses.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
Student Transport and Allowances Branch
The Student Transport and Allowances Branch is responsible for managing the provision of transport assistance programs enabling Victorian students to attend and engage with school across metropolitan and regional and rural Victoria.

  • The Students with Disabilities Transport Program
  • The Conveyance Allowance Program
  • The School Bus Program (with Department of Transport and Planning), including the state-wide roll out of centralised coordination of the program through the Student Travel Assistance Portal (STAP)
  • Develop and implement reforms and improvements to all programs consistent with government priorities and budget responsibilities.

The branch provides systems support and prompt and accurate policy responses to information needs from various stakeholders, including informed response to Government and Non-Government schools and Ministerial requests for information and correspondence.
Financial Services Division
Design and implement financial management principles, processes and systems to ensure that the department and its managers in central office, regions, schools and statutory authorities have the necessary support to execute their financial management responsibilities.
About the Role
Fixed Term, Full-time
1 September 2025 – 31 December 2025
The Student Transport Analyst will work with the department and government schools to undertake research and analysis of school owned buses.
Contribute toward strategic initiatives by providing expert data analysis, including to influence the department strategy towards zero emission bus transitions.
The role entails;
  • analysing data regarding school owned buses
  • compiling register of school owned buses
  • ensuring schools who own buses are meeting the accreditation requirements set by Safe Transport Victoria
  • working with the department's Climate Change Committee to ensure the department can meet its annual environmental reporting responsibilities
  • contribute to recommendations for the School Owned Buses Policy
Attributes
Ability to work collaboratively across the branch and with other areas of the department. The incumbent will be a team player who enjoys working with others to deliver high outcomes.
Ability to integrate relevant technologies and skills to analyse data; presenting information in useable and relevant ways to enable advice to other areas of the department, schools and for updates to policy information.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the use of systems, applications and tools to manage data, extracting and interpreting datasets to report on in meaningful and insightful ways.
