About the Role
Swinburne University of Technology is seeking a highly skilled Technical Specialist to lead and manage cutting-edge research and development initiatives within our Defence portfolio. This newly created role is central to the delivery of our strategic “Detect and Protect” defence initiative, supporting Swinburne’s mission to drive impactful, technology-focused research in collaboration with industry and government.
As Technical Specialist, Defence Research, you will work closely with the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Chief of Defence Innovation to oversee the development and execution of multidisciplinary research programs. You’ll be instrumental in bridging academic expertise with operational defence needs, advancing projects in areas such as advanced control systems, AI-enabled methodologies, simulation environments, and rapid prototyping.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Strong background in modelling and simulation, test and evaluation technologies
- Strong background in system integration and rapid prototyping.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
- Demonstrated ability of developing and drafting research proposals, interpreting funding guidelines and advising on compliance and eligibility requirements.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
