Baby Bunting is Australia's largest nursery specialty retailer, but we're much more than that. We're a growing community dedicated to supporting parents through every step of their journey.
Our purpose? To share in the joy and provide support through the challenges of raising little ones by empowering parents to make the best choices for their families.
So, you’ve probably already got a couple of years merchandising or buying experience under your belt and wondering what’s next? We can help with that! We have created a brand-new role of Trainee Planner where you’ll work as part of our high-performing Travel category. Specifically focused on the car safety product space, you’ll help drive commercial success through strategic planning, data analysis, and inventory optimisation.
You’ll work closely with Buyers, Merchandise Planners, Supply Chain and Marketing to ensure the right products reach the right places at the right time. This role offers hands-on experience with real-world planning challenges across the entire product lifecycle—from forecasting and financial planning to replenishment and promotional execution.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Planning & Forecasting: Assist in building seasonal merchandise plans and updating weekly item-level forecasts. Help manage purchase orders to ensure timely product availability and optimal stock levels.
- Trading & Analysis: Monitor key performance indicators including sales, gross profit, stock turns and markdowns. Create weekly trade reports and provide insights to influence trading decisions. Spot slow-moving inventory and help drive strategic actions.
- Replenishment & Logistics: Manage the Relex Demand Forecast Tool to ensure accurate replenishment. Help design size and store profiles, consolidate containers, and track future FOB orders up to 160 days ahead to support shipping efficiency.
- Promotional Planning: Check promotional event sheets for stock risks and delays, manage marketing approvals, and help coordinate seasonal exit strategies for clearance and markdown cadence.
- Collaboration & Support: Participate in supplier meetings, capture action items, and provide cross-functional support to planning assistants, buyers, and supply chain partners. Step into the Planner or Assistant role when needed.
What We’re Looking For
- 2-3 years’ experience in retail buying or merchandising with some of that experience managing high-value product categories or brand assortments
- Bachelor’s degree in business, merchandising, or related field.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills to interpret data effectively.
- Confident Excel proficiency and a desire to learn planning tools and retail systems.
- Excellent communication and organisation, with high attention to detail.
- Capable of managing timelines and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
