As a Transport Inspector, your main job is to ensure the safety of all light vehicle road users. You do this by educating the public and industry about relevant legislation and when necessary, take appropriate enforcement action. Your role will combine not only educating the public but also providing good customer service.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Advise, train, and educate members of the public, transport industry and other government agencies in relation to various transport related legislation, procedures, and standards to encourage and ensure road use compliance and road safety.
Conducting roadside light vehicle interceptions, inspections, audits and simple investigations relating to compliance monitoring, complaints, and potential breaches of legislation.
Undertake light vehicle inspection activities relating to licensing and accreditation. Use equipment as required in the inspection and testing of on-road vehicles.
Plan and conduct certain audits of individuals and organisations conducting activities on behalf of the department and recommend education, further investigation, or enforcement action.
Prepare reports including offence reports, investigation reports and briefs of evidence using computer technology and office systems.
Requirements of the role:
Demonstrated or the ability to develop skills and knowledge in policy, legislation, standards and procedures, preferably in the transport industry, resulting in their appropriate interpretation and implementation.
Demonstrate ability to understand and analyse information from different sources to make good decisions. You can also adapt to changing situations in a busy and fast-paced work environment.
Demonstrate skills and experience in maintaining high standards through good governance and risk management. You also help create a healthy and inclusive workplace.
Demonstrate strong communication skills and can build good relationships with team members and stakeholders. You can achieve results by using your strengths and acting as a mentor, role model, and advisor for others.
