Tweed Shire Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Unit Coordinator to lead our Strategic Planning and Urban Design team. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving integrated land use strategies and urban design initiatives that reflect community values and future needs.
About the role:
- Lead and coordinate the Strategic Planning and Urban Design team in the review and development of policies and plans to ensure that there is an up-to-date, effective and efficient framework for strategic planning across Tweed Shire Council.
- To provide expert advice across the areas of strategic planning, urban design and heritage.
- Lead, develop and motivate a small team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and best practice management
- Assist the Director of Planning and Regulation in achieving operational and strategic outcomes aligned with Council's Community Strategic Plan.
- Represent the Strategic Planning and Urban Design team within the organisation contributing to broader Council strategic direction and operational planning.
- Manage operational budgets, maintain financial accountability and ensure cost-effective service delivery.

We are seeking:
- Degree qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline
- Eligibility for Corporate Membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA)
- Demonstrated high-level competence in strategic land use planning, project management, urban design or place making and team leadership
- Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement and presentations.

Where it's located:
This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
