About the role:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position at St Vincent’s Public and Private Hospital. The position is a part time position in the public hospital not including private assisting for the 2026 Clinical Year. This would suit a surgical fellow/general surgeon wanting to gain more experience in upper GI surgery. The successful candidate would gain exposure to a wide range of upper GI surgery including Oesophagogastric, HPB, Bariatric surgery and advance laparoscopic surgery. There is some exposure to robotic surgery. The successful applicant may have additional responsibilities in the Acute Surgical Unit. The successful applicant will work with the Director Medical Services in managing, supporting and coordinating registrars in surgical specialty Departments at the nominated Facility, and with the Director of Surgical Training. There is the opportunity to participate in a number of surgical skill courses run during the year. There is also the opportunity to partake in clinical and basic research. The successful applicant may be offered a Conjoint Academic appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment.

Selection Criteria:
- Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Possess Fellowship of the RACS in General Surgery or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award or completed advanced surgical training intending to sit for the fellowship exam in 2025.
- Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position
- Sound clinical knowledge in Upper GI Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
- Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
