About the
Department of Vascular Surgery
The Department of Vascular Surgery, as part of the Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine Division (SAPM), is responsible for the provision of services within the specialty to patients across Austin Health. The Head of Unit is A/Prof Jason Chuen. It provides a wide spectrum of services from outpatient and emergency management, vascular diagnostics, inpatient management, open and endovascular surgery as required with active teaching and research programs.

Located primarily at the Austin Hospital campus, the Unit is committed to the provision of high-quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. Also provided is a consultative service for other Units within Austin Health. Weekly outpatient clinics are run at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital campus of Austin Health.

Ward 6 West is the home vascular surgery ward located on level 6 of the Austin Tower. There is also a comprehensive Vascular Laboratory co-located on 6 North.

About the role
A vascular surgical registrar is a key team member in the functioning of the Vascular Surgery Unit. The registrar team forms part of the departmental junior medical staff which administers day-to-day clinical management of patients under the direction of surgical specialists and the Head of Unit.

Duties may include operative care, diagnostic procedures, ward and outpatient-based patient management, teaching, research and administrative tasks to support these functions according to the standards of Austin Health. Austin Health will assist in meeting the training requirements of RACS SET trainees in accordance with industrial guidelines and agreements.
