Your role
You will provide clerical and reception duties and maintain patient records on our Day Procedure Unit whilst providing a high standard of reception service to a broad range of customers.
Our DOSA/DSU Ward is a 48 bed combined unit providing preoperative and postoperative care to surgical patients in a wide range of surgical specialities. These include Minor Orthopaedic, Gastroscopy, ENT, Gynaecology, Plastics and General Surgery.
We now have a full-time Ward Clerk position or will consider two part-time positions for those with clerical experience and strong focus on customer service to join our dedicated team.

The Position
- Maintain awareness of and works in accordance with SJGHC policies and procedures.
- Provide a reception service for the ward, presenting a courteous professional approach to patients, visitors, doctors and other staff.
- Maintain a high standard of communication at all times, using appropriate tone and style.
- Liaise with nursing and medical staff. Processes enquiries, arranges appointments with other Departments or external organisations as required.
- Orientates new and relief clerks to the clerical requirements of the ward.
- Provide a clerical service to the department including the maintenance of departmental statistics, registers and filing systems.
- Maintain patient movements in the computerised Patient Information System as these occur.
- Maintain manual daily statement of Patient Admissions and Discharges, providing daily statistics to medical record department.
- Liaise with the After Hours Manager in conjunction with Nurse Manager/Shift Coordinator regarding the availability of beds.
- Attend to all word processing requirements of the department.
- Other duties as required within the skills and competency of the position. Maintains accurate and complete patient records as per Medical Record Guidelines and department procedures.
- Undertake daily filing of Pathology results.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of patient records.
- Maintain stationery supplies
You will possess good interpersonal skills, a high level of oral and written communication, with the ability to liaise effectively with the public, patients and all levels of staff at all times.
You will hold working knowledge of a range of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet and patient management systems. With the ability to prioritise and coordinate workflow, you will provide an efficient and effective clerical support service.
To succeed you will have commitment to professional development. Previous experience in a Hospital or Health Care environment with knowledge of medical terminology and medical record procedures and practices will be highly regarded.

- Salary: $68,939 to $74,417 (pro rata for part-time), plus 12% superannuation
